The Swedish rapper Gaboro, real name Ninos Khouri, has reportedly been shot dead in a multi-storey car park.
Local media reported that the incident occurred on Thursday night (December 19) in Norrköping, a city to the south-west of the Swedish capital Stockholm.
In a statement released yesterday (December 20), local police said they were investigating the suspected murder of a man in his 20s, who died of his injuries following a shooting.
A video allegedly showing the incident has circulated online, appearing to show a man being shot while running away in a car park. Swedish police have not confirmed if the video is related to the shooting, but have said that it is part of their investigation, per local paper Aftonbladet.
Police have also appealed for witnesses who have seen a silver station wagon “that may be relevant to the case”. They went on to say that officers are working “very intensively” on the investigation.
Over the past two decades, Sweden has gone from having one of the lowest rates of gun crimes in Europe to having one of the highest, CNN reports.
In 2021, another Swedish rapper, Einar, real name Nils Kurt Erik Einar Grönberg, was fatally shot in what is believed to be a gang violence-related attack. He was 19 years old. Then, earlier this year, C.Gambino – real name Karar Ramadan – was shot and killed in a parking garage in Gothenburg.
In 2022, Khouri was convicted of minor drug offences, per BBC News. Last month, a local newspaper Norrköping Tidningar claimed that the rapper had ties to a criminal gang.
Tributes from fellow musicians have been pouring in, including one from Swedish DJ Alan Max, who posted a photo of himself with Khouri on social media along with the caption: “have no words” (translated from Swedish).
The rapper Imenella also paid tribute, writing: “Rest in peace”. Swedish TV personality and former police officer Nadim Ghazale also shared a statement regarding the circulation of alleged footage, writing (translated from Swedish): “This movie is all over TikTok and is spreading like wildfire. Your kids who have TikTok have most likely seen it or will see it during the day. Talk to them and catch up.” He added: “It’s so disgusting that I have no more words to say.”
Khouri, rose to fame in 2022 after his song ‘Browski’ went viral on TikTok. A year later, he released his debut album ‘WLAK 2’. This year, he released an EP titled ‘Rush Hour’, as well as two singles, ‘Heaven & Hell’ and ‘Baila’.
He was known for covering his face with a balaclava and sunglasses, obscuring his identity.
