The Witcher 4 was properly confirmed over the weekend, two years after developers CD Projekt Red first spoke about the sequel. A six-minute trailer introduced players to a grown up version of  Geralt’s adopted daughter Ciri, who is training to be a monster hunter herself.

“She really deserves a stage and we want players to really experience her story because she has so much to tell, so much to prove,” explained game director Sebastian Kalemba. “The amount of challenges that are in front of her give us so much amazing energy and fuel to create an epic saga that we had no choice but to go with it. We all felt that this is the way. I believe this is the super right choice.”

It’s not all change though. It’s rumoured that Geralt will still have a role in The Witcher 4 while developers have suggested fan-favourite mini-game Gwent could make a return.

The fast-paced card game was first featured in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and was so popular, the standalone Gwent: The Witcher Card Game was released in 2018.

Speaking to Easy Allies (via PC Gamer), The Witcher 4’s executive producer Gosia Mitręga said “We really love the game, and we also really carefully, always listen to the amazing community—which we love. But I don’t think anyone will be disappointed.”

“[Gwent] is part of the experience. We also love it so we can’t imagine [a game without it],” added game director Sebastian Kalemba.

Earlier this month, a physical world version of Gwent was also confirmed, with the card game set to launch in 2025. It will feature over 400 cards and replicate “the full experience of Gwent’s iteration within The Witcher 3.”

In other news, a new theory about updated trademarks has a number of Grand Theft Auto 6 fans convinced a new trailer will drop before Christmas.
