The new announcement arrives just days after the iconic metal band shared details of three one-off shows planned for the summer – a show in New Jersey with KoRn, a date in Chicago with Avenged Sevenfold and a stop in Toronto with Deftones.

When tickets immediately sold out at pre-sale, Serj Tankian and co. went on to announce an extra date in each city.

Now, the American-Armenian metal icons have announced that they’ll be playing some international shows too – confirming a handful of live shows planned for South America.

All new dates will be held across the spring, and kick off with an opening night at the Estadio Nemesio Camacho El Campin venue in Bogotá, Colombia on April 24. From there, the band will make stops in Lima, Peru and Santiago, Chile on April 27 and 30 respectively.

Afterwards, the tour will continue with four more stops planned for the first part of May. These begin with a show in Buenos Aires, Argentina, before the band wrap up with three shows across Brazil.

“Wake Up South America! We did. We heard you. We’re coming,” System Of A Down wrote on Instagram, sharing a new tour poster. They also confirmed that tickets will go on sale on Thursday (December 19) at 12pm local time.

Pre-sale options will also be available from tomorrow (December 17) at 10am local time. Visit here for tickets and check out a full list of new dates below.

System Of A Down’s South American tour dates are:

APRIL 2025
24 – Estadio Nemesio Camacho El Campin, Bogota (Colombia)
27 – Estadio Nacional, Lima (Peru)
30 – Parque Estadio Nacional, Santiago (Chile)

MAY 2025
3 – Estadio Velez Sarsfield, Buenos Aires (Argentina)
6 – Estadio Couto Pereira, Curitiba (Brazil)
8 – Estadio Nilton Santos, Rio De Janeiro (Brazil)
10 – Allianz Parque, Sao Paulo (Brazil)

Today’s announcement comes on the heels of Serj Tankian and co. teasing a new announcement with fans on social media this weekend.

They shared a cryptic post, showing an eye opening and lyrics from their fan-favourite 2001 song ‘Chop Suey!’: “WAKE UP!” It also came with a link for fans to follow, although that only gave them the option to sign up for the newsletter.

At time of writing, it is unknown whether or not the band have plans to announce more tour dates for 2025.

The group haven’t put out an album since their two 2005 releases: ‘Mezmerize’ and ‘Hypnotize’, and speaking with Metal Hammer, the frontman revealed he “became very passive” during the writing and recording process for those.

That being said, he did recently seem more open to the idea of new material, saying that a new System record would be a “fresh start in a brand new way”.

Speaking to NME, however, Shavo Odadjian revealed that he was unsure what the singer meant by the comments, and said that the hopes of new music are still slim.

“I don’t know what he means by that,” Odadjian said. “We’ve done things a certain way in our career where it’s always going in a new direction. Every time we do something new, it’s in a direction you don’t expect. Process-wise, we’ll have to see when we get together. If it goes in a way that works for one person but not the others, we won’t do it. It has to work for all four of us.”

He continued: “Once that special time comes when we’re all in sync, we’ll figure out a way to do it. I’m not saying that it’s going to happen for sure – I don’t want people to turn this into clickbait like ‘Shavo says there’s a new record coming!’ I’m just saying if something happens, it will have to be in a way that all four of us are comfortable with.”

Although the band haven’t shared a full album in nearly two decades, they did share two singles – ‘Protect The Land’ and ‘Genocidal Humanoidz’ – in 2020. Both were shared in a bid to raise funds for Artsakh and Armenia after they came under attack from Azerbaijan and Turkey.
