Fans have been sharing a new clip of the Gavin & Stacey finale and wondering if that’s all they’ll get until Christmas.
Set five years after Nessa (Jones) proposed to Smithy (Corden), it was recently confirmed that despite airing on Christmas Day, the final instalment won’t be set during the festive period.
While Steffan Rhodri, who plays Dave Coaches in the show, has recently teased a “very touching” final scene for the hit BBC sitcom, fans have been left wondering where they’ll pick up, as well as when an official trailer might drop.
“They’re being oddly secretive about the gavin and stacey finale,” wrote one on X/Twitter. “Any teaser i’ve seen is old footage. are we genuinely seeing nothing new until christmas day?” Others have since discovered a new clip hidden at the end of 2019’s festive special on BBC iPlayer, which you can watch below.

In the short snippet, which plays after the credits, Ruth Jones‘ Nessa is back in Barry riding tourists around.
In a recent talk with the Big Issue, Jones and Corden hinted that the finale might not see the iconic pair end up together. “I keep telling people this finale might not be what you are expecting,” Jones said. “And I guarantee we will definitely not be coming back.”
Corden added: “What people are going to see on Christmas Day is the culmination of a 20-year love story, which hopefully shows, if nothing else, that love is complicated and messy and for everyone.”
Last month, the first look at the cast in the upcoming Gavin & Stacey special was shared featuring Corden and Jones alongside Mat Horne (Gavin) and Joanna Page (Stacey).

A synopsis also said the final episode will see Bryn (Rob Brydon) “packing the Picasso in readiness for a trip to Essex; Stacey and Gavin are looking for new ways to spice up their seventeen year marriage and Gwen (Melanie Walters) is behaving most strangely. Nessa’s started a new business venture and Neil the Baby’s (Oscar Hartland) about to begin an apprenticeship with his dad”.
Meanwhile, over in Billericay, “Pam (Alison Steadman) is stressing out at the prospect of playing hostess, not helped by a newly retired Mick practising his golf swings in the living room and there have been more ups and downs in Pete (Adrian Scarborough) and Dawn’s (Julia Davis) relationship”.
Co-creators and co-writers Ruth Jones and James Corden confirmed news of the special in May, following leaked reports in February, and the cast officially started filming the finale in September before it was finally wrapped up in October.
Steadman, recently described the finale as “the best fun ever”. She told The Guardian, “I feel really proud. I mean, the last Christmas special got a huge audience. People stop me now in the street all the time: ‘Can’t wait. Can’t wait for Christmas Day!’ I hope we don’t let them down!”
