Co-produced by Lucas and Leo Son, the sincere rap track sees Smith candidly recite bars that discuss trauma, ego and the actor’s inner child while Lucas takes on the opposite, flexing about success.
“I’m about to face all this shit I been runnin’ from/ You might relate to the places I’m comin’ from / I been through trauma I thought I’d recover from/ I got regrets, you heard about some of them,” Smith raps on the track, addressing his past.
Created by Cartuna Cartoon and directed by Lucas and Matthew Bordenave, the single’s accompanying video sees animated versions of Smith and Lucas facing obstacles such as being stuck in the middle of the ocean during a storm, falling from a building and climbing mountains in the desert.
‘Tantrum’ marks Smith’s fourth single of 2024, following ‘Work Of Art’ which featured Russ and Smith’s son Jaden, ‘You Can Make It’ featuring the Sunday Service Choir, Chandler Moor and Kirk Franklin and ‘Light Em Up’ with Sean Paul.
Although the actor and rapper has been releasing new music, there has yet to be any announcement of a follow-up album to his 2005 LP ‘Lost And Found’.
In other news, Smith was recently confirmed as one of the artists performing at the Positiv Festival in France next year. He will take to the stage on July 31, for a set at the Roman Theatre of Orange.
The announcement of his appearance at the French music bash comes after he signed with the music label Slang, under the Rene McLean-led entertainment company Influence Media, earlier this summer.
Elsewhere, Smith’s return to the music industry has also seen him perform ‘You Can Make It’ at the BET Awards in June, join J. Balvin on stage at Coachella in April, and make a surprise appearance at Spanish boxing event La Velada Del Año 4.
Back in February, he also joined up with DJ Jazzy Jeff to perform at the Grammy Salute to 50 Years of Hip-Hop ceremony.
