Feel alive
It’s the last time you will taste it
Say goodbye
And surrender all your will to us

Drawing from the nectar of musical influences like Depeche Mode, AFI, and Nine Inch Nails, indie singer-songwriter Alex Okami first stirred the hive of the indie scene with his debut EP, Under the Same Moon, in 2020. Each acoustic, melody-laden track buzzed with melancholic overtones, reflecting Alex’s struggles and emotions. His heartfelt lyrics stung with sincerity, inviting listeners to find solace in his vulnerabilities.

His track In the Dark offers a new kind of buzz, blending electronic elements with his trademark sound, a natural evolution in his songwriting. The lyrics speak of surrender and transformation, drawing the listener into a dreamlike state where identity fractures and vitality flickers. “Close your eyes and imagine something greater,” the narrator urges, residing in a liminal space of sacrifice and fleeting light, like a drone caught between duty and freedom.

This latest version, a remix by Phoenix-based band Corbeau Hangs (the darkwave project of Manuel Perez), injects a hypnotic, dancefloor energy. Corbeau Hangs’ pulsating synths and eerie vocal effects echo the likes of Bootblacks, turning In the Dark into an electrified swarm of sound. It’s a sharp, evocative take that leaves its sting, embodying the vitality and tension of Okami’s original.
