Charli XCX and Gillian Anderson have been sharing mutual love for each other, declaring themselves “chic and cunty”.
The interaction stemmed from a tribute written by The X Files star for the Financial Times’ ‘25 Most Influential Women of 2024’, in which she described the ‘Brat’ star as an “inspiration”.
“This year, Charli has reclaimed the word ‘brat’ for women everywhere, released an album that reached the top 10 in 12 countries, captivated Brooklyn with changing messages on a painted wall, and even influenced the US election,” Anderson wrote.

“Charli has a clarity of vision and an unashamed audacity to act upon it. Throughout her genre-defying music career, she has shunned labels and customs in favour of staying true to herself. Charli’s clear sense of who she is and what she wants continues to be an inspiration to us all.”
“In a world where it can be exhausting to be the rebel, Charli can genuinely say, ‘I went my own way and I made it.’,” Anderson added. “I can’t wait to see how she wields her power next.”
The article reached Charli herself, with the singer replying to it on her X account on Friday (December 6) by saying: “gillian anderson you are so chic and cunty i love you”.

Charli’s culture-dominating sixth album ‘Brat’ was released in June and has been named as the Album of the Year by NME. “‘Brat’ as cultural sensation was a sight to behold, to be sure. But ‘Brat’ as an album – the record at the core of the rollout, the music beneath the marketing – is quite simply exceptional,” NME noted.
“As a songwriter and lyricist, Charli has spent much of her career oscillating between the poles of unfuckwithable attitude and naked vulnerability. ‘Brat’ moves effortlessly along the scale, giving us bulletproof bangers that remain wrenchingly human. This album is not only peak Charli, but a new bar set for modern pop.”
‘Brat’ summer looks set for round two in 2025. Charli has been confirmed as the first headliner for next year’s Parklife and the ‘360’ artist has also curated a day at London’s LIDO Festival, where she’ll deliver a bill-topping performance.
Additionally, she will play two outdoor shows in Belfast and Dublin, perform at Coachella 2025 and top the bill at Primavera Sound in Barcelona and Porto. On top of that, she’s also announced a US arena tour for April and May.
