According to a press release, the shows on the 2025 tour will employ “specially developed mobile digital ticketing technology” to ensure fans are buying genuine tickets. “Ed and his team have a strict stance against anyone using unofficial secondary ticketing sites to try and stop fans being exploited when trying to buy tickets for his shows,” it said.
Earlier this year, a tout who sold Ed Sheeran and Lady Gaga tickets by buying and reselling at an “industrial scale” was sentenced to four years in prison.
Sheeran’s promoter Stuart Galbraith said at the time, that the verdict was “good news for live music fans, who are too often ripped off and exploited by greedy ticket touts”.
In other Sheeran news, he has been outspoken about his involvement in the new ‘Ultimate Mix’ of the Band Aid charity single ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’. He said he would have declined the use of his vocals on the new version if asked, arguing that “my understanding of the narrative associated with this has changed”.
In response, Band Aid organiser Bob Geldof has rigorously defended the song, arguing, “this little pop song has kept millions of people alive”.
Sheeran also recently apologised after interrupting the first post-match interview with Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, after Sheeran’s own Ipswich Town earned a surprise draw against the team.
