Back in March, Baldur’s Gate 3 developers Larian Studios confirmed it wouldn’t be releasing a sequel or an expansion to the hit game despite starting work on both projects before deciding to scrap them. “We’re not going to make [what] everybody is expecting. We’re going to move on,” explained CEO Swen Vincke.

However, that hasn’t stopped the team from updating the hit game. In September, Patch Seven introduced new cinematics, bug fixes and an official modding kit. Developers also promised a number of fan-requested features would be added in a future update. “The journey isn’t over yet.”

And now Larian has confirmed when those new additions will make their way into Baldur’s Gate 3. Patch Eight is due to launch at some point next year and will include a new photo mode, cross-play and a new subclasses for all existing classes. “Expect new abilities, animations, VFX, summons and cantrips, and unique voiced dialogue lines for the Oathbreaker Knight with written reactivity for Oathbreakers, along with a touch of homebrewing on certain actions to enhance your role-playing experience,” reads the patch notes.

The new update will also introduce new lens, scene and camera settings to make full use of the photo mode. “Baldur’s Gate 3’s Photo Mode is a little like a photo booth that lets you set up pretty much any shot you’d like. This new feature introduces a whole slew of options to let you customise and edit your in-game photography, with various levels of freedom depending on whether you’re using it while adventuring, or during combat, dialogue, and cinematic scenes.”

The update will launch at some point in 2025 but Larian will be hosting a series of stress tests before it goes live. Head here for more details on how to take part. Baldur’s Gate 3 also confirmed this will be the last major patch “before we bid Faerûn adieu in search of stranger shores”.

Larian hasn’t revealed details of it’s next move but has teased two new projects that will be “even better” than Baldur’s Gate 3, with the “very ambitious” new RPG’s based on fresh IPs.

In other news, Minecraft players will finally be able to listen to their favourite songs while playing, thanks to a new mod.
