Robert De Niro is set to star in a new series by the creators of Narcos on Netflix.
The Oscar-winning actor will make his TV debut as the US president in Zero Day alongside Black Panther star Angela Bassett, Jesse Plemons and Stranger Things star Matthew Modine.
According to a synopsis: “[Zero Day] stars De Niro as respected former US President George Mullen, who, as head of the Zero Day Commission, is charged with finding the perpetrators of a devastating cyberattack that caused chaos and thousands of fatalities across the country.
“As disinformation runs rampant and the personal ambition of power brokers in technology, Wall Street, and government collide, Mullen’s unwavering search for the truth forces him to confront his own dark secrets while risking all he holds dear.”

As well as starring in the series, De Niro is also a producer. “[De Niro] very much became our partner in this process – very hands-on, very involved, read everything at every stage, and it’s been an incredible honor and privilege,” said Newman (via Tudum). “You can count on one hand the actors and actresses in history who bring this level of gravitas, pedigree, and talent to their work.”
Zero Day is set to premiere on Netflix on February 20, 2025.
Elsewhere, Director Francis Ford Coppola recently recalled De Niro’s “unforgettable” audition for The Godfather in a new interview.
“He had an unforgettable audition for Sonny Corleone, that was so in advance of what I even could imagine because he really nailed that kind of a guy,” Coppola said.
At the time of his audition, De Niro was an unknown and Coppola actually offered the part of Paulie Gatto in the film after the part of Sonny Corleone went to James Caan instead. De Niro refused the role but later appeared in The Godfather Part 2 playing a young Vito Corleone.
