Premiering next month on Disney+, Light Shop is a new K-drama based on the 2011 webtoon written by Kang Full, who is the writer behind the streamer’s hit 2023 K-drama Moving. The story follows six individuals who meet in a mysterious light shop while trying to reckon with traumatic experiences from their pasts.

At a press conference during the Disney Contents Showcase APAC 2024 event in Singapore yesterday (November 20), Kang, who also acts as the series’ screenwriter, shared that he was pleased with how his story was translated onto the screen.

“I drew Light Shop as a webtoon 13 years ago. There were stories in the original that I couldn’t fully express. This series unravels the stories that couldn’t be shown in the webtoon, and the actors have been able to portray them in a more three-dimensional way,” he said per The Korea Herald.

Kang added that the series had become “deeper rather than broader”, and that the emotions and stories he wanted to express “have come to life in a video in a way that satisfies me”, noting that the K-drama “has become much richer than the original”.

Following the success of Moving last year, the writer added that he felt “some pressure” preparing for the new series. “While Light Shop is a bit similar to Moving in some sense, I feel Light Shop has a different tone,” he explained. “I was wondering how viewers would respond to Light Shop. However, because it’s interesting, I am confident in its success.”

Light Shop stars Ju Ji-hoon (Kingdom, Along with the Gods), Daily Dose of Sunshines Park Bo-young, Pachinko’s Kim Min-ha and more. The series premieres on December 4 on Disney+.
