Darkwave trio Corlyx is a band that boldly colors outside the lines of traditional genre conventions, redefining the contours and boundaries of what is acceptable in the dark music scene. They transcend mere genre-blending, evoking entire eras through their sound. Rather than simply echoing nostalgia, Corlyx draws from the distinctive tones of the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s, seamlessly incorporating these elements into a modern fusion that feels both unique and daringly their own.
Now, Corlyx unveils Zombie Kid, a charged offering from their forthcoming 19-track double album, Purple Pain, set to release on Valentine’s Day 2025. This sprawling new album reflects years of exploration, diving deep into gothic tributaries like synthpop, post-punk, and darkwave. With Zombie Kid, the band adds a rebellious streak of alt-rock to the mix, channeling both raw talent and their creative evolution. It’s a vivid prelude to an album promising an audacious leap into uncharted sounds.
“I started introducing more flavours to my guitar parts, still sticking to my signature sound, just letting the moment tell me what to play,” explains Brandon Ashley. “Compared to our previous work, Blood In The Disco, I decided to pour some more 70’s blues into my riffs overall with a grunge attitude.”
“The majority of our rock influences come from the 70’s and we think it really shows on this record,” says Corlyx. “It’s part of what creates our signature sound, in a world where there is no “new sound” we pushed forward with combining many moods and styles of goth,” going on to describe the behemoth collection as a ‘mega beast of singles and spooky dance hits.’

“I often think and dream in specific colours,” muses vocalist Caitlin Stokes. “I name songs after colours frequently, I have been in my purple era for a while now and it really set the tone for all the artwork and images even before we thought of the album name. We had another name in mind but Purple Pain just shot into my brain one day when I wasn’t even thinking about it and was like that lightbulb ahah moment. It made me chuckle, a goth album named Purple Pain. That’s hilarious and iconic, yes…I love a bit of humour in my goth…there so much camp and cliche all around us. I feel like if you can’t recognise that after a few years, you’re missing an important element: goth is dark and emotional, it’s creative and sensual, but it can also be very spooky, camp, and fun. So there are some really serious emotional songs on this record…but theres also a lot of upbeat dance songs, and the order in which things happen on this record is like a movie, almost.”
