This past weekend, rumours began circulating that the hit drama’s third season had quietly been cancelled at HBO, prompting a short retort from a representative that confirmed the show will be moving ahead as planned.

Now, HBO boss Casey Bloys has expanded on the company’s stance for Euphoria season three. Ahead of the show’s production beginning in January, Bloys said to members of the press at an HBO event yesterday (November 12) per Variety: “We are shooting Euphoria. I think we have a start date, mid to late January. Nothing’s changed. Somebody said something online, and then this whole thing started. We are shooting the season. I have read the scripts. We’re happy. We’re moving ahead. All of the actors are in the show.”

Bloys continued: “I know the show gets a lot of attention now because, you know, it has created some genuine movie stars, and they have various projects that are working on, but we are shooting this season, so nothing has changed. It’s eight episodes.”

In a statement issued back in July, HBO’s head of drama Francesca Orsi said she was “thrilled” to reveal that the show will begin shooting this coming January, with the entire main cast set to return.

Notably, despite abating the recent cancellation rumours, most of Euphoria’s major cast members face jam-packed schedules ahead of them next year. Zendaya and is set to shoot Dune: MessiahSpider-Man 4 as well as Christopher Nolan’s next as-yet-titled film in 2025.

Her co-stars are equally busy, with Jacob Elordi committed to his Saltburn boss’ upcoming reimagining of Wuthering Heightsand Sydney Sweeney set to film Paul Feig’s The Housemaid early next year.

There have been numerous reports about the delay of the third season, which were compounded by the tragic death of Euphoria star Angus Cloud in August last year. The delays even confused its lead stars – with Sweeney telling  NME that she doesn’t “know how soon I’m going home”. Meanwhile, Zendaya said earlier this year that the show’s delays were “beyond me”.

The comment came amid swirling rumours that the creative relationship between Zendaya and Sam Levinson had soured after he moved away from Euphoria to focus solely on The Idol – a show that was universally panned by critics and cancelled after just one season.

Zendaya later confirmed the third instalment was seemingly going ahead, complete with a time jump.
