Ex-Iron Maiden singer Paul Di’Anno’s cause of death revealed

Late former Iron Maiden vocalist Paul Di’Anno’s cause of death has been revealed – find out more below.

Last month, Di’Anno died at the age of 66. A cause of death was not shared at the time, but as of yesterday (November 11) has been revealed via his sisters Cheryl and Michelle: “Basically he had a tear in the sac around the heart and blood has filled inside it from the main aorta artery and that has caused the heart to stop.”

The news was posted via the official Paul Di’Anno page, with a moderator noting that his death was “instantaneous and hopefully painless”.

Following the news of Di’Anno’s death, Iron Maiden wrote on on X/Twitter that Di’Anno’s contributions to their early sound “helped set us on the path we have been travelling as a band for almost five decades,” and added that his “pioneering presence” would be “fondly remembered not just by us, but by fans around the world.”

“It’s just so sad he’s gone,” Steve Harris continued in the post. “I was in touch with him only recently as we texted each other about West Ham and their ups and downs. At least he was still gigging until recently, it was something that kept him going, to be out there whenever he could. He will be missed by us all. Rest in peace mate.”

They concluded by noting they were “grateful to have had the chance to catch up a couple of years ago” and extended their deepest sympathies to Paul’s family and close friends.

Di’Anno famously sang on the band’s first two albums: the 1980 self-titled effort and 1981’s ‘Killers’. Among the hits he had recorded with Iron Maiden are ‘Charlotte The Harlot’, ‘Iron Maiden’, ‘Running Free’ and ‘Phantom Of The Opera’.

Iron Maiden most recently released the album ‘Senjutsu’ in 2021. The album scored a four-star review, with Rhys Buchanan writing for NME: “‘Senjutsu’ is an instant classic in Iron Maiden’s 41-year journey. The powerhouse metal sound that’s earned them a religious following in every far-flung corner of the globe remains firm. But here, they take things further; ultimately letting imaginations run wild in an album that’s more confident and idea-packed than ever before.”
