The surprise announcement was made last night (November 7), five years to the day since Death Stranding first launched on the PlayStation 4 as an exclusive. A Director’s Cut of the action game was then released in 2021 for the PS5 while a PC version was made available in 2022.

And now Xbox Series X/S players can finally play the game. Death Stranding is available to purchase now via Xbox’s own digital store and, for a limited time, is half price.

According to the Xbox listing, this version of Death Stranding has been optimised for Series X/S consoles and comes with Director’s Cut features like Photo Mode and Ultra-Wide Monitor support.

The release comes after Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima announced his new game OD was being developed in partnership with Xbox. The horror is being created alongside Jordan Peele with other “legendary” collaborators also working on the title. In October last year, the pair were photographed with Elijah Wood, suggesting he’ll also be involved.

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is also in development, with Kojima hoping to release the sequel at some point next year. However when it does release it will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive.

Kojima is also working on a big screen adaptation of Death Stranding alongside celebrated studio A24. “Their presence is singular within the industry, they are like no other. The films they are delivering to the world are high in quality and very innovative,” he said. “Their innovative approach to storytelling aligns with what Kojima Productions has been doing for the last eight years. Now, we are making a movie together.” A release date and casting news is yet to be announced though.

In other news, Fallout fans have been sharing their excitement over reports that Macaulay Culkin has joined the cast for season two.
