Tom Hanks has revealed that he’s thankful a sequel to Forrest Gump was never made – find out why below.

In 1994, Hanks and Robin Wright starred in Robert Zemeckis’ hit film Forrest Gump. 30 years after its release, the film’s still one of the most beloved and revered movies of all time.
Earlier this month (November 1), Hanks, Wright and Zemeckis reunited for their second film together, Here. Speaking to The New York Times about Here and the undying legacy of Forrest Gump, both Wright and Hanks were asked about whether they feel sentimental about the 1994 classic.

Wright said that while she’s always feel sentimental towards Forrest Gump, it’s not just because it’s a good film: “Sentimental working with these guys because it was such a great experience.”
Hanks on the other hand, said he’s glad the movie was a one-off project and that a sequel never came to fruition: “It is this extraordinary amalgam that stands completely on its own and never has to be repeated. And thank God we never bothered trying to make another one. Why put a hat on a hat?”
Here, Robert Zemeckis’ latest film and the first time Hanks and Wright have reunited in a feature film since Forrest Gump, is set for release in cinemas across the UK on January 17, 2025.

Over the last handful of years, Tom Hanks has starred in films such as Elvis, A Man Called Otto and Asteroid City among others. 2023’s Asteroid City scored a four-star review from James Mottram, who wrote for NME: “Like all of Anderson’s work, it’s very affectionate, even if every camera move appears to have been calculated with the precision of a mathematical equation.”
