The ‘WAP’ rapper made a speech at the “When We Vote We Win” campaign effort in Milwaukee, following performances by GloRilla, MC Lyte, the Isley Brothers, Flo Milli and DJ Gemini Gilly.

Back in July, Cardi reminded her fans that she had endorsed Kamala Harris long before Joe Biden withdrew from the race, saying at the time: “They should’ve passed the torch to Kamala. This was the perfect moment for her.”

Addressing the crowd at the Wisconsin rally, the rapper compared herself to Harris, saying she had been an “underdog” throughout her career too. “I’ve been underestimated. My success belittled and discredited,” she said. “Women have to work 10 times harder, perform 10 times better, and still, people question us how we got to the top.”

She also noted that she hadn’t planned on voting this year, but had changed her mind once Harris entered the race. Previous to Biden’s dropout, she had criticised him because of his stance on Palestine and his inaction over the economy.

“I feel like people got betrayed,” she told Rolling Stone. “It’s just like, ‘Damn, y’all not caring about nobody.’ Then, it really gets me upset that there is solutions to it. There is a solution. I know there’s a solution because you’re spending billions of dollars on any fucking thing.”

“[Harris] changed my mind completely,” Cardi explained during the rally. “I did not have faith for any candidate until she joined the race and said the things that I wanted to hear — things I want to see next in this country. I believe in every word that comes out of her mouth; she’s passionate, she’s compassionate, she shows empathy, and most of all, she is not delusional.”

Just 2 days ago Donald Trump said he’s gonna protect women whether they like it or not? She went on to refer to former president Donald Trump as “Donny Dunk” and disparaged the claim that he would protect women’s rights. “If your definition of protection is making sure our daughters have fewer rights than their mothers,” she said, “then I don’t want it.”

She followed up with a Tweet after the rally, and wrote: “Just 2 days ago Donald Trump said he’s gonna protect women whether they like it or not? Donnie please… Protection for women, especially if we’re talking about maternal and mental healthcare, isn’t telling them WHAT to do with their bodies it’s supporting them and giving them the care they need for what THEY CHOOSE to do with their bodies!”

Elsewhere in her speech, she went on to praise Harris’ economic plan against price gouging and her proposal for down payment assistance for first time homebuyers, saying Harris was “promising a lot” and that she “believed her.”

“That’s why, this week, I am voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. I’m sharing it with all of you because I think there are a lot of you who feel like I do. You don’t recognise our country. And you are right to be furious.”
