The final Alan Wake 2 DLC is out today (October 23), with fans celebrating the “bittersweet” release of The Lake House.

The long-awaited sequel to the original Alan Wake was released last October, and was praised as “one of the best games of the year”. The survival horror follows best-selling novelist Alan Wake as he attempts to escape an alternative dimension by writing a horror story involving FBI Special Agent Saga Anderson.
The Night Springs expansion was released earlier this year and featured a trio of what if scenarios. Meanwhile The Lake House is described as a “true survival horror experience” and features a crossover with Remedy’s other franchise, Control.

The Lake House is the last planned expansion for Alan Wake 2, and Remedy has also shared a free anniversary update that gives players access to infinite ammo and a one shot kill mode. “We can’t believe it’s been almost a year since Alan Wake 2 was released. Thank you to everyone who has played the game and become a member of our fanbase and the Remedy community, no matter when you joined us or how long you’ve been a fan,” said the studio in a blog post.
On social media, fans have been praising the way The Lake House celebrates art and creators. “As a fellow artist, I’m grateful The Lake House happened and that Remedy got an opportunity to create it. It’s gonna sound crazy – but it’s a great representation of how art and artists are treated, how damaging it can become when you create just because you don’t have a choice,” wrote one fan. “Alan Wake 2 Lake House DLC gets us artists so well,” said another.

Other fans have been enjoying the expanded Alan Wake lore that DLC provides. “Absolutely overjoyed to find that the websites mentioned in The Lake House are real and (one of them) contains oodles of canon reading material,” wrote one fan.
Game director Kyle Rowley released a statement about his journey with Alan Wake 2, which first began in 2018. “I already knew there and then that there was the potential to build something amazing and I’m really really proud of the game that we eventually released,” he said. “It’s been a crazy rollercoaster and I’m both happy and sad that it is now finished. But, there is always something new to get excited about, so maybe I’ll just do that.“ Meanwhile writer Sam Lake shared pictures of special Lake House cakes.
Earlier this year, Remedy confirmed a second Control game was still in the works and the studio was looking to build a Remedy Connected Universe with that and Alan Wake. “Growing and expanding these franchises will be a key part of our future,” explained CEO Tero Virtala.
In other news, Netflix has shut down its ambitious in-house game studio Team Blue just two years after it was launched.
