Activision has confirmed that its Ricochet anti-cheat software has been upgraded ahead of Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6’s launch.

Call Of Duty players have always had to deal with cheats while playing multiplayer, despite Activision’s best efforts to ban them as quickly as possible. Earlier this year, when Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was released on Xbox Game Pass, players experienced a rise in cheats due to an issue with anti-cheat technology Ricochet.
Now though, Activision has confirmed a major update for Ricochet, including new machine-learning behavioural systems that are focused on speed of detection and combat aim bots.
“Over the last year, we have been investing in numerous core systems focused on decreasing the time gap between when cheating occurs and when our systems are able to act. By building on this foundation, we will be able to evolve more quickly and respond more rapidly,” reads a dedicated blog post.

Activision confirmed that it sees cheats as “anything that gives a player an unfair advantage in-game by using nefarious software” as well as things like account sharing.
“The people behind cheats are organised, illegal groups that pick apart every piece of data within our games to look for some way to make cheating possible. These bad guys are not just some script kiddies poking around with code they found online. They are a collective who profit from exploiting the hard work of game developers across the industry,” Activision continued.
“The number one thing both we and you care about is not losing another match to a cheater. A lot has been put into Black Ops 6 to upgrade security, but here is the goal we’re targeting: we want to catch and remove cheaters within one hour of them being in their first match.”
The team used the recent Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 beta to refine their system and has already seen improvements with how quickly they’re able to stop cheats. “During the beta we stopped over 12,000 confirmed cheating accounts before they ever saw the inside of a match.”
According to Activision, this is just the start as well. “We can’t tell you cheaters will disappear forever because of the tech we’re preparing for launch. But everyone here will use every tool we can to keep fighting to deliver a fair and fun experience for you! And if the right tool doesn’t exist, we’ll make it ourselves. Anti-cheat is a constant effort, and we are always working to stop and thwart the efforts of cheaters.”
Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 launches this Friday, October 25. Some fans are upset that Xbox has stopped the £1 trial for Xbox Game Pass though, removing a cheap way to try the game out.
