“Breaking Bad Habits”: Bryan Cranston reprises Walter White role in anti-littering advert

Bryan Cranston has reprised his role as Breaking Bad’s Walter White in a new anti-littering advert.

The public service ad is called ‘Breaking Bad Habits’ in a nod to the smash hit drama, and it aims to encourage people to stop littering in the state of New Mexico.

It recreates a famous desert scene from the show, with Cranston collecting litter from the ground as he portrays White, and warns viewers, “Keep litter out of my territory.”

There’s a reference to the Breaking Bad pilot, too, with a pair of khaki trousers seen on the ground – in the episode, White loses his trousers in the desert while making a quick getaway.

The governor of New Mexico, Lujan Grisham, appears in the ad, too, as does Tim Keller, the mayor of the city of Albuquerque.

But it was the return of Cranston as White that got the most excitement, with fans on social media rejoicing. “Walter White coming back from the dead to clean WAS NOT on my bingo card,” said one on YouTube, while on X/Twitter one viewer seemed to speak for many when they said, “Anything to have a bit of fresh Breaking Bad material down my throat.”

Another, suggested, “I think we should be having a Breaking Bad ad every now and then to bring back that nostalgic feeling.”

The ad, however, is just one part of a campaign that also has billboards across the state and an autumn cleanup challenge with volunteers from across the state.

In January, Cranston told Breaking Bad fans that it was time to let the show go, explaining, “Everything should come to an end. Everything’s cyclical. Our lives are cyclical. The seasons, trees, everything. And, so, it’s okay to have a beginning, middle, and end, and then let it go. I’m proud of what we did.”

Earlier this year, Cranston also made headlines for giving a speech at a campaign rally for the Democrats in the US, endorsing Kamala Harris for President.

At the rally, titled ‘Fighting For Reproductive Freedom’, he said: “I‘m not a politician; I’m not a doctor or a lawyer, but I have played all of this on television.

He continued: “But I am a father of a daughter, and it’s important to me for her life now and for the future and for other fathers’ daughters to be able to have within their lifetime the fundamental right of freedom of choice.”
