[Exclusive Interview] BEWAVE Evoke the Nostalgia of Youth with “Be your Wave”

BEWAVE is a girl group under GoldDust Entertainment, consisting of members YUNSEUL, JIUN, LENA, ZENA, AIN, and GOWOON. They debuted in April this year with their first mini album, BE;WAVE. On October 10, they returned with their first single album, ”Be your Wave.”

This new release captures the relatable emotions of youth, with BEWAVE singing about their ‘overwhelming’ moments. Building on their debut mini album, which conveyed the shared feelings of young people, “Be your Wave” deepens this theme by exploring the ideas of ‘overwhelm’ and ‘sharing the moment.’ Once again, BEWAVE runs passionately toward their listeners.

The album was crafted by a dream team that raised expectations. Just like their first mini album, this single was written, composed, and produced by composer EL CAPITXN and producer VENDORS Nano, additionally singer-songwriter YOUHA contributed to the lyrics. They perfected the music with the fresh vibe that’s unique to BEWAVE.

The title track, “Hard to get to you,” beautifully captures the intense emotions of youth. With its striking band sound and addictive chorus, the lyrics tell a story that resonates with all young people. By the end of the song, it feels like you’ve just experienced a coming-of-age film. The accompanying music video nearing 2 million views is receiving praise and attention for the refreshing and nostalgic vibe.

KpopWise spoke with BEWAVE about their new music for an interview.

Hello, BEWAVE! Congratulations on your comeback! Can you tell us about your album “Be your Wave”?

BEWAVE: Under the theme of ‘youth,’ this album is filled with the explosive emotions we feel in various moments, such as joy, sadness, happiness, love, and excitement. We’ve gathered all those ‘overwhelming’ moments into this album. Through BEWAVE’s first single album, we hope to evoke the sympathy of all youths and sing together about all of our ‘overwhelming’ moments.

What was a funny moment filming the music video?

JIUN: There were a lot of scenes in the music video where we got splashed with water! One memorable moment for me was filming a scene where we played in the water together, followed by a solo shot of me getting even more drenched. Since it was filmed in the middle of summer, getting hit by the water felt refreshing, and I loved it.

ZENA: There were lots of water scenes in the music video, but also plenty of running scenes! What I remember most is everyone, including the members and staff, trying to hold back their laughter while watching me run. I’m sure it was because I looked cute while running, not because it was funny! Haha!

Do you have any role models?

GOWOON: Since my debut, Taeyeon sunbaenim has been my role model. I want to become a versatile artist like her.

AIN: IU sunbaenim is my role model. I admire how her beautiful voice conveys both softness and strength. She always prepares her performances perfectly and treats her fans sincerely. I aspire to follow her example.
