With the fourth season of Apple TV+’s Slow Horses coming to an end, when can fans expect to see season five? Read on for all the info.
Episodes of the new season have been premiering on a weekly basis on the streaming service since September 4, with the sixth and final one arriving on Wednesday (October 9).
The show is based on the Slough House series of novels by Mick Herron and revolves around a group of British intelligence officers who have been demoted after having made significant mistakes. Gary Oldman stars as Jackson Lamb, the head of Slough House, alongside Kristin Scott Thomas, Jack Lowden and Jonathan Pryce.
The new season has been roundly praised as the “best season yet”, sitting on an imperious 100% score on reviews aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.
The third season of the show, meanwhile, picked up the Emmy for Best Writing For A Drama Series last month.
In a five-star review of season three, NME wrote: “The sad thing about Slow Horses is how few people are watching it on Apple TV+ in the UK. Far fewer are subscribed versus the other streaming giants. However, this season could change all that as the buzz around the show becomes impossible to ignore: it’s the best show on TV right now.”
When is Slow Horses season five coming out?
The show was officially renewed for a fifth season in January this year, and the episodes have already been filmed.
The next run will be based on Herron’s fifth book in the series, London Rules, and fans of Slow Horses can rejoice in the fact that three further novels have also been written, with another due in 2025.
No release date has been confirmed by Apple TV+ as of yet, but seasons have been rolled out in short order so far. Seasons one and two both landed in 2022, with three coming in late 2023 and four just now concluding.
Based on this pacing, fans can expect season five to land in 2025, most likely between September and December.
Showrunner Will Smith has spoken about his desire to keep making the show, telling Radio Times: “Depends on what Apple wants and what the appetite is, but I definitely have the kind of leave-them-wanting-more rather than the outstay-your-welcome instinct. But the world of the show is there to be mined.”
Apple TV+ has already released an official synopsis for season five, which reads: “In season 5 of Slow Horses, everyone is suspicious when resident tech nerd Roddy Ho has a glamorous new girlfriend, but when a series of increasingly bizarre events occur across the city, it falls to the Slow Horses to work out how everything is connected.
“After all, Jackson Lamb knows that in the world of espionage, ‘London Rules’ should always apply.”
