Neil Young and Stephen Stills have come together to perform their song ‘Hung Upside Down’ for the first time in 57 years. Find footage of the moment below.

Held on Saturday night (October 5), the on-stage appearance was part of the 2024 Harvest Moon benefit gig in Lake Hughes, California. Hosted by Neil Young, the event saw various famous musicians come together to raise funds.
One of the most noteworthy moments of the event came as Young brought out Stephen Stills – formerly bandmates as part of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young – for a collaboration.
To start, the two broke out a rendition of the title track from their collaborative 1976 album ‘Long May You Run’, before continuing with ‘Human Highway’. The latter was originally meant to be released as part of CSNY’s ‘Deja Vu’ album, but instead came as part of Young’s 1978 record ‘Comes A Time’.
From there, the two turned heads by playing the Buffalo Springfield song ‘Hung Upside Down’ for the first time in 57 years.
Originally released in 1967, the song hadn’t been played live since Buffalo Springfield’s heyday. “The worst four words you can hear in a live performance are ‘here’s a new song’… But this is actually a new version of an old song that took two centuries to write. It’s called ‘Hung Upside Down’,” Stills said before the rendition (via KSEN).
Other tracks the two performed together included ‘Helplessly Hoping’, ‘Helpless’ ‘Field Of Opportunity’, ‘Love The One You’re With’ and more. Check out footage from the gig below.
For the set, Anthony Logerfo joined as drummer while Corey McCormick played bass. Later in the evening, John Mayer played his own set too, and then joined Young for a collaborative performance of ‘Rockin’ In The Free World’.
The event helped to raise funds for the Bridge School and the Painted Turtle Camp. The former is a non-profit organisation for children with severe speech and physical impairments, while the latter was formed by Paul Newman, and looks to give opportunities to children who are faced with life-threatening and chronic illnesses.
This wasn’t the first time that Young had gotten involved in raising funds for Bridge School. Previously, he has held annual benefit concerts for the non-profit, which ran between 1986 and 2015. Since then, he also played at Harvest Moon in 2019 alongside Father John Misty, Norah Jones and Masanga.
The appearance with Stills came as the two reunited last year to pay tribute to late bandmate David Crosby. It marked their first on-stage appearance together in four years.
Young performed with Stills at the latter’s ‘Light Up The Blues’ event, which he puts on every year in aid of Autism Speaks. Young performed solo renditions of ‘From Hank To Hendrix’ and ‘Comes A Time’ before he was joined by the house band Promise Of The Real for ‘Heart Of Gold’.
