[Recap] Re:Born Episode 1 – # Rehearsal

The Plight of “Nugu” Groups

Episode 1 delves into the struggles faced by  groups from small lesser-known companies. It highlights the harsh realities these groups endure, including the difficulty of appearing on television shows and participating in music programs due to their agencies’ limited influence.

In the introduction interviews, the groups talked about how K-pop groups from lesser-known agencies often experience long delays before debuting – which could get pushed back months or years, and even after the debut, they face significant challenges in getting media exposure.

The judges are introduced and they chime in on their impression of the industry for lesser-known groups. Kim Taewoo, a seasoned figure in the industry, explains that these groups face fewer opportunities for media promotions, leaving them at a disadvantage compared to groups from major companies. He emphasizes that while their talent may be comparable, the lack of exposure and resources puts them in a far tougher position.

This challenge is echoed by vocal coach Shin Yumi and dance coach Choi Hyojin, who guide the groups through rigorous training. Both coaches have high expectations, acknowledging the talent these groups possess but also emphasizing the areas in which they need to improve to compete in such a competitive industry.

E’LAST – A Notable Performance

Among the standout performances in Episode 1 was that of E’LAST,
performing their song “Thrill.” Their live performance impressed both
judges and viewers alike, showcasing flawless vocal execution in both Korean
and Japanese. Their dancing was strong, and even their breathing remained
synchronized—a testament to their professionalism and hard work. Kim Taewoo was
particularly impressed, saying they performed higher than expected. Shin Yumi,
who already knew their potential, felt they lived up to expectations. Choi
Hyojin praised their ability but if she had to find anything, there was some
disappointment with the two-member sections, where she would rather all members
fill the stage. The episode ends with a cliffhanger of DXMON preparing to
perform next.
