The season finale of Industry season three aired last night (September 30) and fans are calling it one of the “best ever” episodes of television.

The HBO and BBC’s investment bank drama follows the lives of a group of bankers working in the London office of the fictional company Pierpoint & Co, focusing on a group of recent graduates as well as their mentors.

The third season of the drama series was officially commissioned in October 2022, just weeks after the premiere of season two. A statement from HBO vice president of programming Kathleen McCaffrey said at the time: “Industry reached new heights in season two, cementing its status as a buzzy hit with addictive storytelling, layered characters, a breakneck pace, and keen observations about contemporary workplace dynamics.”

On social media, fans heaped praise on the last episode. One fan wrote: “Industry just pulled off one of the greatest season finales I’ve ever watched” while another described it as “one of the best episodes of television…momentous.” A third said it was “insanely good television” while a fourth added that it “did not disappoint.”

#INDUSTRY: Season 3 finale (S03 x E08) is one of the best episodes of television in a pretty sharp season. Heartbreaking. Momentous. Unlike the others. Could have been a series finale if they wanted it to be.

Upsetting goodbyes & full circle moments. My heart sank. pic.twitter.com/f9S3wRA4Um

Industry finale took an *exact* character beat from an all-time Sopranos episode and it’s all good because it’s like when a young novelist cribs a passage from Willa Cather. Incorporate the best shit into your work!

That was insanely good television. A culmination of all three seasons really. It totally felt like a series finale. Curious as hell how they come back for Season 4.#Industry

A fourth season of the hit show was confirmed by HBO earlier this month.

“For three seasons, Industry has been unflinching in its examination of ambition and class, solidifying itself as a marquee HBO drama,” said Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO Programming and head of HBO drama series and films.

“Under [series creators] Mickey [Down] and Konrad [Kay’s] singular vision, this twisted, thrilling look at London finance has redefined the contemporary workplace show. We’re so excited that viewers and critics have recognised season three as bigger and better than ever, buoyed by sublime performances from our unparalleled cast. We have no doubt that Mickey and Konrad, alongside the amazing team under executive producer Jane Tranter at Bad Wolf and executive producer Kathleen McCaffrey, will take season four to even greater heights.”

Game of Thrones star Kit Harington also joined the cast of the third season of Industry this year. Harington took on the role of the British aristocrat Lord Henry Muck, described by a press release as “the embodiment of ‘old money’ privilege”.

In a review of the first season of the show, NME said: ”It makes the world of banking look deeply unappealing, but makes it very fun to watch others suffer through it.”
