Daniel Kaluuya will be honoured with a statue in his hometown of London in recognition of his breakout film role in 2017’s Get Out.

The Oscar-winning actor was chosen to be immortalised in a statue in a poll of 5,000 British film fans as the person they most wanted to see as part of the Scenes in the Square trail in Leicester Square. Kaluuya won 20 per cent of the vote.
His statue will depict the famed ‘Sunken Place’ scene from Get Out in which Kaluuya’s character falls into a hypnosis-induced suppressed metaphysical abyss. It will be unveiled in October.
“We are excited to welcome Daniel Kaluuya and Jordan Peele’s Get Out to our Scenes in the Square line-up as a celebration of a modern cinematic success and homegrown British talent,” said Mark Williams, deputy chief executive for Heart of London Business Alliance, which runs ‘Scenes in the Square’ with support from Westminster City Council. “It points to a bright future for our trail, with Kaluuya as a chosen symbol of the future of entertainment, and it is a pleasure to be able to spotlight such a pioneering film.”
The organisers pointed out that the unveiling of the statue also coincides with Halloween and the UK’s Black History Month, nodding to the film’s horror genre and its themes relating to the culture and experiences of Black Americans.
Get Out went on to gross $255.4million against a budget of $4.5million, and was chosen by Time as one of the top 10 films of the year.
Meanwhile, Peele has recently been teasing a new project coming in Halloween 2026. He has taken a short break from directing, his last directorial project being Nope in 2022.
His production company Monkeypaw Productions has, however, produced a handful of projects since then, the most recent being 2024 action thriller, Monkey Man, starring and directed by Dev Patel.
Peele opened up about the project at the start of this year, calling it his “favourite” of all his works so far.
