Episodes of the new season are premiering on a weekly basis on the streaming service, with the first having aired on September 4. Four out of six are available as of September 25, with the climactic episode arriving on October 9.

The show is based on the Slough House series of novels by Mick Herron and is based around a group of British intelligence officers who have been demoted after having made significant mistakes. Gary Oldman stars as Jackson Lamb, the head of Slough House, alongside Kristin Scott Thomas, Jack Lowden and Jonathan Pryce.

The new season has been roundly praised as the “best season yet”, sitting on an imperious 100% score on reviews aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

The third season, meanwhile, of the show picked up the Emmy for Best Writing For A Drama Series last week.

In a five-star review of season three, NME wrote: “The sad thing about Slow Horses is how few people are watching it on Apple TV+ in the UK. Far fewer are subscribed versus the other streaming giants. However, this season could change all that as the buzz around the show becomes impossible to ignore: it’s the best show on TV right now.”

What is the song in the Slow Horses intro?

The song that plays over the opening credits of Slow Horses is ‘Strange Game’, a song written specifically for the show by The Rolling StonesMick Jagger, alongside composer Daniel Pemberton.

Jagger was a fan of the original book series and when the first season’s premiere was approaching in April 2022, Pemberton contacted him to request his contribution.

“I’d heard of [Pemberton], because he’d done quite a lot of TV and film music, English guy, and he’d gotten a lot of kudos, nominations for awards,” Jagger later told Rolling Stone. “They’re kind of a new take on spy stories…It’s sort of an anti-John Le Carre or anti-James Bond. I’ve always liked that genre, and it’s always nice to see it get slightly reinvented.”

“Surrounded by losers, misfits and boozers / Hanging by your fingernails / You made one mistake, you got burned at the stake / You’re finished, you’re foolish, you failed,” Jagger sings on the track.

Jagger has released four solo albums, most recently 2011’s ‘Goddess In The Doorway’. He has contributed original tracks for film and TV projects in the past, including ‘Memo From Turner’ from the cult 1970 Nicolas Roeg film Performance.
