Whoopi Goldberg has hit out at football fans who have blamed Taylor Swift‘s presence in the stands for her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s performance.
While Kelce’s team, the Kansas City Chiefs, have done well so far this season by winning their first three games, some fans have complained about how he has done on the field. Somehow, they’ve ended up pointing the finger at Swift.
On the latest episode of The View, which aired on Tuesday (September 24), the talk show host said: “They apparently forgot that they won a Super Bowl last year with [Kelce], and [he and Swift] were just as tight then as they are now,” she said. “Grow up, y’all. Stop putting this on her. Your team is fine, your team is doing well. Shut up.”
Swift was not present at the Chief’s most recent game on Sunday (September 22), which was fairly quiet for Kelce, but she had been in attendance for their first two games of the season. Nonetheless, for their third game of the season, they still claimed victory.
“She wasn’t even at the game,” pointed out cohost Sunny Hostin. “Is she supposed to play the game too?
“I also love how we’re acting like Taylor Swift is like a magic 8 ball,” added cohost Alyssa Farah. “She can’t magically affect his game.”
Goldberg suggested that Swift’s recent endorsement of Kamala Harris could be behind the backlash. “I’m blaming MAGA. They’re mad that she is not supporting You Know Who.”
Goldberg also recently defended Janet Jackson after she questioned Harris’ ethnicity, claiming she wasn’t Black. In reality, Harris is Black and Indian.
“You know, sometimes I’ve said stuff. And you know, I was wrong. But people want you to say something right away. You know, when people are coming at you saying, ‘Hey, you’re not paying – you’re dumb, you don’t know’ – you don’t want to answer people,” Goldberg said on The View.
“And it is a pain in the butt, I have to tell you. Sometimes people get it wrong and they’re wrong, they made a mistake, they were wrong, it happens. Anybody who says it doesn’t happen to every one of us, multiracial or not, we all do it. So, OK, a little grace for the girl, alright?” Goldberg added, arguing that Jackson is “a musician”, not “a political animal.”
