Donald Trump demanded NBC bring back late night TV host Johnny Carson – even though he’s been dead for almost 20 years.
During a rally on Monday (September 23), the former US president claimed that the late night shows hosted by Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel are “all dying”.
“When I first ran in 2015 or was thinking about running I went on [Jimmy’s] show, The Tonight Show, which is dying,” he said. “They’re all dying. Where is Johnny Carson? Bring back Johnny. It made you appreciate the greatness of Johnny Carson. These three guys are so bad.”
Carson hosted The Tonight Show between 1962 and 1992. He died in January 2005 at the age of 79.
In other news, Robert De Niro has hit out at Donald Trump again, saying the former US President “wants to destroy” America.
“To me, it’s not over until it’s over and we have to go at this wholeheartedly to beat the Republicans – those Republicans, they’re not real Republicans – and beat Trump,” De Niro said. “It’s that simple. We cannot have that type of person. Everybody has to get out there and vote.”
Trump was also recently criticised on-stage by Paramore’s Hayley Williams during the band’s set at the iHeartRadio Music Festival.
During a performance of ‘Big Man, Little Dignity’, Williams seized the moment, leaning into the camera to issue a rallying cry against the former president.
“Project 2025 is Donald Trump’s playbook for controlling and punishing women, poor people, people of colour, and the LGBTQ community,” she said. “It is time for all Americans to band together and to finally defeat the Trump agenda. And the only way to do that is by confronting him at the polls. Do you want to live in a dictatorship? Well, show up and vote.”
