Chappell Roan responds to fan taking photos on Nintendo DS: “Keep doing it”

During a recent Chappell Roan concert, the singer spotted a fan taking photos of her using a Nintendo DS console and gave her whole-hearted support.

In a video posted by PopBase on X/Twitter, Roan can be seen walking on stage between songs. Using her hand-held fan she gestures toward a person in the crowd and asks, “Bitch is that a DS? You keep taking photos on your DS, you keep doing it.”

The original Nintendo DS doesn’t have a camera, but the Nintendo DSi does. It has an inner and outer 0.3 megapixel digital camera, so the photos snapped of Chappell Roan aren’t likely to be the most high-fidelity, but at least they caught her attention.

The DS handhelds originally started launching in 2005, so some younger fans may be surprised Roan even knows what one is, but the original sold over 154 million units as of 2016, and even the 3DS (with the most recent version launched in 2012) sold over 75 million units as of 2022.

As Roan was born in 1998, it’s possible she had one or more of these consoles growing up. Back in July she said when she’s not making music she likes to play video games on her Nintendo Switch. “I love Mario Kart; I’m addicted to my Switch. I’m a Switch girl, I don’t have an Xbox.”

Roan recently revealed she has been diagnosed with severe depression. “I think it’s because my whole life has changed. Everything that I really love to do now comes with baggage,” she said. “If I want to go thrifting, I have to book security and prepare myself that this is not going to be normal. Going to the park, pilates, yoga – how do I do this in a safe way where I’m not going to be stalked or harassed?”

In other news, Henry Cavill, one of the most famous Warhammer fans around, has praised the new Space Marine 2 game.
