Julie’s appearance on The Cover follows the release of their debut album ‘My Anti-Aircraft Friend’, the current culmination of a dizzying journey for the band. When they released their debut single ‘Flutter’ in 2020, they had one simple aim. “You know how Spotify has that ‘less than’ sign for songs that have less than 1,000 listens?” guitarist and vocalist Keyan Pourzand asks NME rhetorically. “We all just said: ‘Please let us have more than that.’”
Since then, the band have become one of the premier picks among a crop of young groups influenced by shoegaze, signing a major label deal with Atlantic Records and opening for heavy hitters like Alex G, Faye Webster and Foo Fighters. For their Cover story, Julie reflect on their story so far and share their feelings on the shoegaze tag they’ve been bestowed with. “It’s cool because it’s helped us grow, but I think we’re getting a little sick and tired of it,” Pourzand says.
