Billie Eilish’s ‘When the Party’s Over’ closes Kamala Harris Ad on reproductive care

Billie Eilish’s song ‘When the Party’s Over’ has been used as the closing track in a campaign ad from Vice President Kamala Harris’ which focuses on reproductive care.

Earlier this week, the ‘Happier Than Ever’ singer and her brother and collaborator Finneas endorsed Harris’ presidential candidacy. The siblings shared a video on social media, announcing that they are voting for her and Tim Walz, “because they are fighting to protect our reproductive freedom, our planet and our democracy.”

Finneas went on to say: “We can’t let extremists control our lives, our freedoms and our future. The only way to stop them and the dangerous project 2025 agenda is to vote and elect Kamala Harris,” with Billie adding: “Vote like your life depends on it because it does.”

Now, a new Harris campaign ad titled ‘Monster’ has been shared, featuring Eilish’s music. The ad highlights the dangers of a lack of reproductive care under a Donald Trump presidency and features activist Hailey Duvall telling her story of how she was raped and impregnated by her stepfather at the age of 12.

The clip is soundtracked by Eilish’s 2018 single ‘when the party’s over’, and sees Duvall explain that, while she was able to access healthcare like abortion, the overturning of Roe v. Wade means that women and girls across the country can no longer receive the same medical treatment, even in cases of pregnancy due to rape or incest.

Roe v. Wade was a landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court that occurred in 1973.  The Court ruled that the Constitution of the United States generally protected a right to have an abortion.

In 2022, Trump and the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Since the overturn, 17 states have banned abortions (per ACLU).

Eilish has been vocal about her opposition to Trump’s campaign and presidency. Back in October 2020, the ‘Birds Of A Feather’ singer launched an initiative to encourage fans to vote during that year’s election.

The initiative asked fans to text “BILLIE” to 50409 to find out if they are registered to vote, and how they can register if not.

That same month, Eilish said she has a “responsibility” to speak out ahead of the  Presidential election, despite claiming she would “rather die” than discuss politics.

“There just comes a certain point where you can’t ignore it and you can’t be silent. Especially having the platform that I have, I don’t want to waste that. So I think it’s really important that we all talk and speak up, even if we’d rather die,” she told Jimmy Fallon, after performing at the Democratic National Convention in support of Joe Biden in 2019.

Following Biden’s Presidential win, the singer shared a video thanking fans for voting in the US election and toasting his victory.

“This is unbelievable, I am so happy. I am through the roof. I wanted to say thank you to everybody that changed their mind, or got out there and fucking voted, even if you voted for the first time, whatever. Don’t let anybody tell you your voice does not matter,” she said in the clip.

In other news, Eilish was announced as one of the first performers for season 50 of Saturday Night Live.
