The ceremony took place last night (September 17) at London’s Roundhouse, and winners received an award on the night that had been designed by Reeves.

The comedian, real name Jim Moir, spoke about the awards ahead of the show to Sky, saying: “The finished pieces are Bronze sculptures standing roughly one foot tall, they’re heavy too at four kilograms so will fit perfectly on a mantlepiece… or used as a doorstop!”

There were live performances during the evening from acts including The Darkness, Ren, and poet Lemn Sissay.

It was during The Darkness’ closing performance that Reeves stormed the stage. When the band were playing ‘I Believe In A Thing Called Love’, Reeves arrived on stage and grabbed the microphone to sing the song’s second chorus. Check out the video here:

The inaugural Sky Arts Awards were hosted by Joe Lycett, and showcased what Sky described as “the very best of British and Irish arts and culture” with the aim of “celebrating incredible achievements across the arts”.

At the event, The Last Dinner Party took home the Popular Music Award, while Mr Bates Vs The Post Office won in the television category. The film How To Have Sex won in the film category, while Fern Brady won for comedy.

Elsewhere on the night, there was a never-before-seen ultimate rock collaboration between AC/DC’s Brian Johnson and Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash.

Phil Edgar-Jones, director of Sky Arts, said: “We passionately believe everyone should have access to the arts to enrich our lives and bring us all the joy of a better experience.

“Arts, culture, entertainment, music, storytelling, the visual arts – whatever you’re into we believe it’s something we do better than anywhere else in the world and at Sky Arts we will never stop banging on about how important arts and culture is.”

Meanwhile, Reeves admitted last year that he “never really speaks” to his comedy partner Bob Mortimer anymore.

The pair formed their comedy double act Vic and Bob in 1986, and were best known for their ’90s panel show Shooting Stars. Reeves admitted that he is rarely in contact now with Mortimer.

He said: “We never really speak much. Bob and I have never been ones for talking on the phone,” he said. “[I’ll] see him now and then and have a chat about things.”

In recent years, Reeves has focused on painting, releasing his artwork under his real name.

In other news, The Darkness have just unveiled details of a new album and tour.
