Female* Producer Prize Vol. 3: Ten Winners Announced

Over 250 applications received

Due to the overwhelming quality of applications, this year’s Female* Producer Prize will be awarded to ten female producers in two categories.

The winners will receive personal coaching and prize packages as well as various masterclasses at Sony Music Germany’s Circle Studios.

Berlin 12 September – Sony Music Germany and Music Women* Germany are delighted to announce the ten winners* of the third edition of the Female* Producer Prize. Over 250 applications were received this year, an increase of over 50 %. The aim of the Female* Producer Prize is to strengthen the visibility of female and non-binary producers and promote networking among them.

In addition to a sponsorship package, the winners will be included in the new roster for labels and artists of Sony Music Germany. They will also receive various masterclasses at the Sony Music Circle Studios in Berlin on October 29. On the evening of the same day, the award ceremony will take place in the ballroom of Fotografiska Berlin, to which industry representatives, media representatives and applicants for the Female* Producer Prize will be invited.

This year, applicants could in two categories: “Producer” and “Self-Producing Artist”. The distinction recognizes the different challenges and skills required in both areas. Due to the large number and high quality of the applications, ten female producers will be honored instead of the originally planned eight: four in the Producer category and six in the Self-Producing Artist category.

The winners of the Female* Producer Prize 2024 are:

Self-Producing Artists:

Joules the Fox: Joules the Fox is a musician, singer and producer in the folk, pop, indie and neo-classical genres. In recent years, she has played over 200 concerts in Europe and Canada and realized 30 releases with various international artists.

KUOKO: KUOKO’s pop songs have been streamed millions of times and deal with themes around being a FLINTA* in a digital society. Her genre-fluid sound is characterized by her experiential approach to music. KUOKO has already produced and released two albums.

lùisa: lùisa’s sound combines folk rock and indie pop with groove-heavy retro arrangements and spherical dreampop influences. Her latest album “New Woman” gained international recognition and led to Europe-wide appearances, including at the Iceland Airwaves Festival and as support for Arlo Parks.

Melane: Melane is known for her cross-genre mix of Afro, rumba and pop. In 2024, the artist will present her first solo debut album “Mirrors & Windows”. In addition to her musical career, she is actively involved in social issues and cultural identity.

Philo Tsoungui: As an artist with Cameroonian roots and a fascination for EDM and IDM, Philo Tsoungui transcends genre boundaries. With degrees in classical percussion and popular music, Philo has toured the world with artists such as top artists Tarek K.I.Z, Disarstar, Fatoni, Megaloh, Mine and The Mars Volta.

Sera Kalo: Sera Kalo is a genre-fluid artist who experiments with different sounds. The Caribbean-American singer, lyricist and songwriter has already worked on over 23 albums in Germany and Asia. Her debut album “eXante” was nominated for the German Record Critics’ Award in 2023.

Producers:

Lisa Kida: Lisa Kida is a producer with Kosovan roots and creates a cross-genre sound with international influences. Her style includes influences from pop, experimental reggaeton, dancehall and hiphop. She is a resident at Riverside Studios in Berlin and part of the music duo ‘BUBBLES’.

Mia Diekow: Mia Diekow has been working as a producer and singer-songwriter since 2007. Her style combines influences from various genres such as chamber pop, indie, folk and electronica. Since 2020, she has been an activist for post-infectious diseases and is co-founder of “Long COVID Germany”.

Perera Elsewhere: Sasha Perera aka Perera Elsewhere is an award-winning producer, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and DJ in the field of experimental pop. Her sound combines experimental beats, deep bass frequencies and existential themes. She has collaborated with renowned artists such as Nina Hagen and her work has been licensed in films by Ava DuVernay and Paolo Sorrentino.

YUKI: YUKI combines modern sounds with intimate details. Her productions are influenced by genres such as darker hyperpop, electronic, dance and trap. She has already collaborated with artists such as Vamero, iiven, Sevi Rin, Floss, Nike101 and LilliPop. 

“As a global music company, it is important to us to further increase the visibility of women in the music industry. Events such as the workshop day and the award ceremony on October 29th, but also the inclusion of the winners in the Sony Music Female Producer Register and the opportunity to network with various labels and artists serve this purpose,” said Henrike Blome, Head of A&R at Four Music/Sony Music and jury member of the Female* Producer Prize. 

“For the third time now, we can say that the claim that there are hardly any female producers is not true. The large number and, above all, the quality of the applications again this year show how many talented and progressive female producers we have in the DACH region alone,” says Pamela Owusu-Brenyah, board member of Music Women* Germany.

The Female* Producer Prize is sponsored by RBX GmbH with funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media as well as Sony Music Entertainment, Sony Music Publishing, Thomann Musikhaus, Ableton and the SAE Institute. Further supporters of the initiative are the Female* Producer Collective and Fotografiska Berlin, where this year’s award ceremony will take place on October 29.
