Last night, the ‘Mamushi’ rapper took to social media to officially announce ‘Neva Play’, which had first been teased over the weekend. Now, it has been confirmed that BTS star RM will be joining her on the new track, which is due to arrive this Friday (September 6).
Megan Thee Stallion wrote of RM and the track: “This is one of my favourite RM verses I’ve heard! I’ve never heard him rap in this style before.”
Megan rapper released her third studio album, ‘Megan’, in June. In a four-star review, NME described it as a “confident, cohesive third album that colourfully showcases all aspects of the rapper’s identity and personality,” and added: “All of these facets of Megan Thee Stallion have been on display throughout her career, from freestyles to mixtapes to studio albums. But they’ve not sounded this cohesive together till now (yes, even ‘Worthy’, with its self-empowerment mantra of a chorus and peppy pop-guitar beat). When the sizzling guitar solo rings out on ‘Cobra’, it escorts us out of the album – and heralds a fearless new era for Megan Thee Stallion.”
She also performed at a rally for Vice President Kamala Harris last month, as the Democratic candidate for president continues on the election trail ahead of Americans heading to the polls on November 5. ‘Wanna Be’, meanwhile, appeared on former President Barack Obama’s annual summer playlist this year.
In RM-related news, the BTS singer/rapper most recently released his solo album ‘Right Place, Wrong Match’ in May. The album scored a five-star review, with Rhian Daly writing for NME: “It’s a gorgeous, intriguing, artful record that would likely not have come to be had RM not experienced – and then interrogated – these feelings of confusion and being out of place, and a perfectly imperfect reminder that life and love, right and wrong, is never just black and white.”
In July, Megan Thee Stallion closed out her ‘Hot Girl Summer’ tour at the O2 in London. NME‘s Kyann-Sian Williams wrote in a five-star review: “While the outro rings through the arena and confetti flies everywhere, Megan stands on stage in glee, telling the audience she “can’t believe” she’s successfully finished her first big feat as an independent artist. The night – which is an exuberant celebration of fun, twerking and self-confidence – ends with her trademark statement that never gets old: ‘Real hot girl shit!’”
