Korean World Food Festival 2024 in London New Malden

On the 27th of July, the quaint neighbourhood of New Malden, London was once again brought to life on a pleasant summers day by the World Korean Food Festival 2024, presented by the Korean Restaurant and Supermarket Association (KORSA).

The festival featured an outdoor market of popular Korean dishes such as bibimbap, tteokbokki, and jars of kimchi – where guests had the opportunity to experience a tasty Korean snack or grab a meal before heading for the festivities inside.

The festival was co-hosted by Korean culture influencer and ambassador Becky Lee Smith, also known as HangukHapa on social media, and John Cho, who introduced the performers of the day in both English and Korean.

Guests of the festival had the opportunity to experience Korean culture from all different angles. From a traditional Gayageum performance by Jung Ji-Eun and a serene choir by the London Korean Hummingbirds, to a dynamic Taekwondo demonstration by the class at Wild Tiger Martial Arts – who’s teacher had been teaching for over 20 years!

Of course, there were also plenty of K-Pop performances from cover artists such as the KWD dance cover group, with their BlackPink dance cover. For those enthusiastic about K-Pop choreography (but not so keen about being on stage), there was also a K-Pop random play dance for guests to enjoy.

The excitement continued with a raffle that guests could participate in – where the prizes ranged from various Korean food such as ramen, rice, and gochujang, with the grand prize being a free return ticket to Korea! The KORSA president picked the one lucky winner blindfolded in an amusing display. Even if ticket holders didn’t manage to win anything, they also generously handed out free snacks to all the remaining guests!

Overall, the festival acted as a lovely way to share Korean culture with London through a medium no one can resist – food. It’s no doubt that Londoners thoroughly enjoyed the events, and we can only wait to see what comes next.
