Last week, Netflix released the political K-drama The Whirlwind, starring Queenmaker actress Kim Hee-ae and movie star Sul Kyung-gu. For the latter, the new series is his first TV role in over 20 years, following a number of supporting roles in the ’90s.

Speaking to Korea JoongAng Daily, the actor revealed that he believe he “built my own wall [about appearing on TV shows] without noticing” over the years. “I feared that I might not be able to handle [the environment],” he added.

However, Sul then added that the decision ultimately boiled down to his belief that he “would do anything if the story is just good, regardless of its format”. In fact, the actor says that the barrier has “disappeared” now, with him set to star in the upcoming medical-thriller K-drama Hyper Knife next.

Elsewhere during the interview, the veteran actor said that he “couldn’t stop” reading the K-drama’s script when he first sat down to review them. “The recklessness [in the script] surprisingly also was appealing to me,” he added.

In other K-drama news, Netflix has released the first trailer for the third and final season of its popular series, Sweet Home, starring Song Kang. It will make its international premiere July 19 exclusively on the streaming platform.

Meanwhile, Disney+ has announced a brand-new travel show titled Are You Sure?!, starring BTS singers Jungkook and Jimin. The show will reportedly follow the duo in the US, South Korea’s Jeju Island and the Japanese city of Sapporo.
