After 24 weeks of production, the show’s finally “halfway” complete, with showrunner and creator Ross Duffer of the Duffer Brothers celebrating the midway point of the production cycle.

Duffer wrote on Instagram: “Week 24. Happy halfway to the best cast and crew ever” The post included a picture of the entire show’s cast and crew – with two people blurred out – and a video that shows actor Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler, drop the marble in a jar that marks the week’s completion.

Season 5 of Stranger Things – which will be the show’s last – has yet to receive a release date, but will consist of eight episodes. Most recently, star Maya Hawke, who joined the show in season 3, revealed: “We’re making, basically, eight movies. The episodes are very long.”

Filming for season 5 began at the start of the year, and is expected to wrap by the end of 2024. Post-production work on the final season is expected to be finished next year.

Stranger Things‘ final season will also likely see the return of Jamie Campbell Bower as the all-encompassing villain, Vecna, who escaped the desperate capturing attempts of Nancy, Steve and Robin last season.

Speaking to Collider last year, the show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers revealed some details about season five, and that a lot of it will focus on Noah Schnapp’s character, Will Byers.

“Will’s going to be a big part and focus, is really all I can say of Season five, in his journey,” shared Matt Duffer. “We’re starting to see his coming of age, really. Which has been challenging for a number of reasons, some of which are supernatural. But you’re starting to see him come into his own.”
