Kodak Black Celebrates Sobriety and Shares Dramatic Turnaround in Prescription Drug Addiction

Kodak Black has been open about his struggles with substance abuse, especially after his release from Broward County Jail in February. The Florida rapper, who recently welcomed his fourth child, took to Instagram Live on Wednesday (July 3) to share an inspiring update on his sobriety journey.

During the live stream, Kodak revealed that he can now go several days without using any substances. “I’m sober for the most part. I say this around my people so they know that I can talk about it now, you feel me?” he said. “Now I can wait a few days… I’m more proud of myself. I ain’t saying I couldn’t have; it was just like a n**ga was scared to be sober.”

Kodak expressed his pride in this milestone and encouraged his fans to believe in their ability to overcome addiction. “That’s motivation for n**gas to feel like if the Gremlin could do it […] Y’all could do it,” he added.

The rapper also reflected on his substance abuse struggles following his 2023 arrest for possession of cocaine, which was later found to be oxycodone. He admitted to using Percocets prescribed after he was shot in the leg at a Super Bowl after-party in 2022, but emphasized that he spent over $350,000 on rehabilitation to better himself.

“I’ll tell God himself, I do Percs and s**t like that, but them was my medicine prescribed to me,” Kodak explained. “I’m working on myself. I’m working right now, homie… Just me wanting to better myself.”

R&B singer Ray J previously expressed concern for Kodak’s well-being during a “Drink Champs” appearance, urging those around him to help rather than watch him “self-destruct.”

On the music front, Kodak has been active, teaming up with Vulture Love for Vulture Love Presents: The Last Zombies on Earth in May. He has also released solo singles like “Dis Time,” “Stressed Out,” and “Shampoo.”

Kodak’s openness about his sobriety journey serves as an inspiration to fans struggling with addiction. His message of self-improvement and perseverance is a testament to the power of determination in overcoming life’s challenges.
