Glastonbury 2024: Here’s everything Avril Lavigne played

Avril Lavigne made her debut performance on Glastonbury‘s Other Stage today. Here’s what she played.

In one of the weekend’s most highly-anticipated performances, Lavigne delighted fans with a setlist jam-packed with nostalgic hits. The Canadian rock icon kicked off her Other Stage set with ‘Girlfriend’, followed by ‘What The Hell’ and ‘Complicated’. Later on she led fans in a cathartic sing-a-long to her 2002 hit ‘I’m With You’.

Despite a storied career in rock music, it was Lavigne’s first time at Worthy Farm — a fact she herself seemed to have difficulty contending with. “Holy shit, I can’t believe it’s taken me 22 years to actually be here,” she told fans, before adding with a smile: “Well, it is about time.”

Her set highlighted the plethora of hits she’s delivered in career that’s spanned two-decades so far. Introducing ‘Complicated’, she asked the huge crowd: “Does anyone out there have a copy of my debut album?”

“This song is my first single from my first album, and I wanna dedicate this song to anybody out there who’s been supporting my music, listening to my music, from day one. This goes out to you, I fucking love you.”

“I wrote that album when I was 16-years-old,” she told fans. “I’m from Canada, I ended up moving to Los Angeles and writing this album that came out when I was 17. It was all such a crazy whirlwind and I came over here to England and the UK right away and everybody has always been so insanely incredibly supportive, and I’ve loved coming here year after year, album after album, tour after tour.”

‘Bite Me’ and ‘Love It When You Hate Me’ were the newest tracks she played, with both songs coming from her 2022 album, ‘Love Sux‘. Upon it’s release, NME described it in a three-star review as “a modern update on early ’00s pop-punk”. It added: “‘Love Sux’ is a progressive pop-punk album that eschews the old rules – but not at the expense of maximalist, joyful guitar anthems.”

Lavigne closed the set, which drew in huge crowds despite clashing with England’s Euros game, with ‘Sk8er Boi’.

Earlier this week, Lavigne was appointed to the Order of Canada, a state order recognising her musical influence. The appointment was made by Canadian Governor General Mary Simon, who shared that the order “recognises individuals who have made positive and lasting impacts on communities here in Canada or who have brought honour to our country abroad.”

Lavigne was awarded the honour on Friday (June 28) for her contributions to music and charity, with Simon writing: “Generous with her time, [Avril] supports individuals with serious illnesses, disabilities and Lyme disease through the Avril Lavigne Foundation. A global ambassador for Special Olympics, she promotes inclusion and helps end the stigma around intellectual disabilities.”

In other Glastonbury news, Paloma Faith paid tribute to Amy Winehouse with a cover ‘Back To Black’ during her performance at the Pyramid stage. Elsewhere, fans have been sharing their love for Gossip following their eruptive set at Glastonbury – which saw them call out the US government.

Still set to come this weekend at Glastonbury 2024 are performances from SZA, The National, Two Door Cinema Club, Justice, Nia Archives, James Blake, Romy and more.

Coldplay‘s electric headlining set on Saturday scored them a four-star review. Little Simz‘s Pyramid performance marked her bid as a future headliner, while Camila Cabello’s Worthy Farm debut was chaotic.
