Watch Alison Moyet’s spirited cover of David Bowie’s ‘Absolute Beginners’

Alison Moyet has performed a spirited cover of David Bowie‘s ‘Absolute Beginners’ for BBC Radio 2.

The former Yazoo member appeared as a guest on BBC Radio 2’s piano room on June 20 where she sang a bright rendition of Bowie’s 1986 track from the film of the same name. She also performed her latest single ‘Such Small Ale’ from her forthcoming album ‘Key’ and her 1984 hit ‘All Cried Out’. The full audio of her BBC Radio 2 session can be heard here.

Back in 1985, Moyet shared the stage with Bowie, Peter Townshend and Paul McCartney for a cover of The Beatles‘ ‘Let It Be’ at the Live Aid concert.

‘Key’ is set for release on October 4 and is available for pre-order/pre-save here. The LP celebrates the 40th anniversary of Moyet being a solo artist and features brand new versions of 16 singles and tracks from her lengthy career.

Speaking about the album in a statement (per Brooklyn Vegan), Moyet shared: “I wanted to take the opportunity to look at the trajectory of the past four decades and explore songs that, in their original form, were never fully realised or have had their relevance to me altered by time.”

‘Key’ tracklist is:

‘Where Hides Sleep’
‘All Cried Out’
‘Such Small Ale’
‘All Signs of Life’
‘Can’t Say It Like I Mean It’
‘Fire’
‘Filigree’
‘The Impervious Me’
‘More’
‘Is This Love?’
‘Tongue Tied’
‘My Right Arm’
‘So Am I’
‘My Best Day’
‘World Without End’
