Alice Cooper launches satirical 2024 presidential campaign

Alice Cooper has launched a campaign to become president of the United States, saying, “I have absolutely no idea what to do, so I should fit right in”.

The rock legend has encouraged fans and members of his Wild Party to “sign up to receive updates on the campaign kick-off, ongoing virtual rallies, Q&A sessions, and more” at AliceForPresident.com.

This is far from the first time Cooper has thrown his hate in the ring for the Oval Office – indeed, he has run in one form or another every four years since the release of his 1972 single ‘Elected’.

He did, for example, run simultaneously in 2016 for president and UK prime minister, including a manifesto that called for “adding Lemmy to Mt. Rushmore” and putting Peter Sellers on the £20 note.

This time around, he has released a campaign video, which you can watch below, in which he says: “Well, I’m Alice Cooper and I’m a troubled man for troubled times. I have absolutely no idea what to do, so I should fit right in.”

Cooper is heading to the UK this autumn for a string of dates on the ‘Too Close For Comfort’ tour. He kicks off at Glasgow’s OVO Arena on October 14, followed by shows in Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and London.

The tour will conclude with two consecutive nights at London’s Eventim Apollo on October 20 and 21.

Primal Scream will join as special guest at all locations except London, alongside The Meffs at all shows. Sex Pistols guitarist and songwriter Glen Matlock will join as special guest at the London dates.

The tour follows the release of Cooper’s August 2023 album ‘Road’. “For ‘Road’, I wanted the band to be involved in the foundation of all the songs,” said Alice in a press statement. “I only see these guys when we’re on the road. So, I wanted them to be as tight as they are for the show but on all new material. When you have a band this good, I believe in showing it off, and this is my way of doing so.”
