Originally released in 2000, Nelly Furtado’s debut studio album Whoa, Nelly! will be released on vinyl for the first time. There are two editions of Whoa, Nelly! available: a classic black vinyl 2LP as well as a special-limited edition 2LP pressed on cotton candy pink and orange peel color vinyl with alternate artwork. Both editions are available for pre-order now, set to ship on August 9th.
Furtado wrote and produced every track on the album. The record produced two top 10 singles, the Grammy-nominated “I’m Like A Bird” and “Turn Off The Light.” The album itself peaked at number 24 on the Billboard 200, and went double-platinum in the U.S. in 2002. In the singer’s home country of Canada the album debuted at number 2 and has since been certified 4x platinum.
In 2022, Furtado joined Drake on stage in Toronto to perform “I’m Like A Bird” in her first live performance in five years. “I’ve thanked [Drake] for dragging me out on that stage, because I haven’t looked back since,” she told Vogue last year. “I was a little hesitant because it had been so long. I was literally at the zoo with my two toddlers that morning.” She is now working on her upcoming seventh studio album and released her latest single, “Love Bites” with Tove Lo and SG Lewis, in May 2024.
She further told Vogue that she believes taking time away has made her a better artist. “I’ve always admired Sade [Adu] for disappearing for a decade and then coming back,” she explained. “When you’re an artist—a singer-songwriter—you’re sensitive; you’re an empath. You can’t keep churning it out. You get fatigued emotionally and creatively. I had to stop and really go through some real life experiences to be able to be where I’m at now—which is a fully grown-ass woman, just feeling like a lady boss.”
