Per a report from Variety, a 300 prequel TV series is in early development with Warner Bros. Television. While details of the series’ plot have yet to be finalised, Variety reports that it is shaping up to be a prequel to the original 2006 movie.

The film’s director Zack Snyder is also reportedly in talks to direct and executive produce alongside his wife Deborah Snyder, who also produced the original film.

At the time of writing, no writers and actors have been attached to the project. When Variety reached out to Warner Bros. for confirmation on the series, the studio declined to comment.

Based on Frank Miller and Lynn Varley’s celebrated graphic novel of the same name, 300 centers around King Leonidas (Gerard Butler), who leads an outnumbered force of 300 Spartans into battle against the 300,000-soldier army of Persia’s Xerxes I (Rodrigo Santoro). The film also starred Lena Headey, David Wenham, and Dominic West among others.

The film spawned a sequel in 2014 titled 300: Rise of An Empire. While Snyder co-wrote for the film, he did not direct. Heady and Santoro returned for the sequel.

In more recent news, Snyder’s latest film – the Rebel Moon duology – have ranked among the worst-rated of his career. Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver hit Netflix on April 19. On the reviews aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, the film is currently sitting on a 15 per cent rating, surpassing his previous low, which was the first Rebel Moon film at 21 per cent.

Some of Snyder’s previous films, including his DC Extended Universe entries Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the original cut of Justice League, are all certified rotten on the site at 56, 29 and 40 per cent respectively.

His highest-rated directorial project to date is his 2004 debut Dawn of the Dead at 76 per cent, followed by his 2021 extended cut of Justice League at 72 per cent.
