The band – comprised of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool – took over the stage at the O Son do Camino festival in Monte do Gozo, Spain for the first night of their tour.
They opened with ‘The American Dream Is Killing Me’ – the lead single from their 14th studio album ‘Saviors’ – before diving into their 1994 LP ‘Dookie’, playing it in its entirety. Armstrong and co. then treated the crowd to ‘Know Your Enemy’, ‘Dilemma’ and ‘Brain Stew’ as a short intermission before jumping into their 2004 album ‘American Idiot’ in its entirety.
Green Day’s stage set up included a gigantic hand holding a red grenade heart, as seen on the album artwork for ‘American Idiot’ and many Marshall amps stacked on stage. Both LPs – ‘Dookie’ and ‘American Idiot’ respectively – are celebrating their 30th and 20th anniversaries this year. The band previously promised that they would be playing both albums in full while on tour.
