Chris Hemsworth is in talks to star in a Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie.
The announcement (via Deadline) marks the continuation of Hemsworth’s collaboration with Paramount Pictures, with the Australian actor already starring in the upcoming animated movie Transformers One – scheduled for theatrical release on September 20, 2024.
A crossover movie between Hasbro’s two major toy lines was teased in the final scene of Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts, where the Autobots were introduced to the special-forces organisation G.I. Joe.
Plot details for the crossover film have not yet been revealed, but it’s possible that the story could take inspiration from the 1980s Marvel comic, which famously saw G.I. Joe and the Transformers cross paths for the first time.
No director is currently attached to the project, and it’s also unclear who Hemsworth will be playing.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto & Don Murphy are producing the film, while Steven Spielberg and Hasbro Entertainment are EPs.

Last week, Hemsworth was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Also present at the ceremony was Robert Downey Jr., who paid tribute to his fellow Marvel star before roasting him.
The pair both starred in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Downey Jr. playing Iron Man/Tony Stark and Hemsworth portraying the Norse god Thor.
After taking to the podium on Hollywood Boulevard, Downey Jr. praised Hemsworth by calling him a “remarkable human being” with a “contagious Aussie charm”. He added: “Chris is a bit daunting to describe. He’s very elusive because of the pretty packaging.
“However upon further inspection, down under, he has a true blue wit, and he has a depth of soul, and it has been my sincere pleasure to know you over these many years. You keep us Hollywood folks on our toes because you’re just a real dude.”
He then remarked: “Now, here comes the roast!” before explaining that he’d reached out to fellow Avengers cast members to ask them to describe Hemsworth in just three words.
He said Hawkeye actor Jeremy Renner had gone for: “Absurdly annoyingly amazing” while The Hulk star Mark Ruffalo “came in strong” with: “Friend from work.” The line is a reference to 2017’s Thor: Ragnorok, which Downey Jr acknowledged with a smile: “Oh that’s a callback, now I get it.”
Meanwhile, Scarlett Johansson, who plays Black Widow, called Hemsworth a “sensitive leading lady”, and Captain America actor Chris Evans described him as: “Second best Chris”.
Hemsworth can currently been seen in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga alongside Anya Taylor-Joy. Directed by George Miller, the prequel to 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road has been warmly received by critics, despite underperforming at the box office.
