Fallout: London is a massive, player-made mod that will allow players to explore a post-apocalyptic London in Fallout 4. It was due for release April 23 but after Bethesda confirmed their long-awaited next-gen update would be launching April 25, Fallout: London has now been delayed.

“With the new update [to Fallout 4] dropping, the past four years of work stands to simply break,” explained project lead Dean Carter in a video update confirming the delay. “This really, really hurts us.”

Anticipating backlash, Carter continued: “Before you grab your pitchforks to go after Bethesda or tell us we’re idiots because you know how to stop the update remember, you know how to do it, not the collective. And this is a collective project. We want everyone to have the past fours of our work come out, and be the best mod possible. This special mod is for everyone.”

Carter went on to explain that the Fallout: London team were excited to utilise Fallout 4’s next-gen update but “this will take some time,” due to a number of different systems needing updates.

The video confirmed that Fallout: London won’t be coming to consoles, despite the new update, because the mod is simply too big. It should be available for anyone who owns Fallout 4 on GOG, Steam and potentially the Epic Games Store, depending on the update.

Team FOLON also claimed that Bethesda has never spoken to the Fallout: London development team, with the social media support coming via the community manager.

As a result, Fallout: London currently doesn’t have an updated release date. “We might get lucky and get a day one fix, or it might be a month from now,” said Carter. “It’s sitting there ready to go, we’re just waiting on those fixes. As soon as we’ve fixed it, it’ll drop.”

Fallout 4’s upcoming free update is due to bring a number of graphical improvements to the game, as well as a new quest, weapons and items. It will launch April 25.

In other news, Bethesda Softworks director Todd Howard has said the studio is unlikely to greenlight TV adaptations of Skyrim or Starfield, despite the success of Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout.
