Highly Anticipated Korean Netflix Series Disappoints Viewers

Recently, Netflix has been responsible for or involved in several popular Korean programs. This includes the dating reality show Single’s Inferno, the cash-driven K-Drama Squid Game, and the zombie apocalypse series All Of Us Are Dead.

Another breakout hit came from the 2023 reality series Physical 100. Physical 100 gathered 100 of the most physically fit individuals and had them compete against each other in athletic challenges.

During the 3rd and 4th weeks following the release, the show was the most popular non-English program, with over 41 million viewing hours.

The much anticipated season two of the series was added to the Netflix catalog in March 2024, featuring a new setting and challenges.  The was cast filled with even more star power than before, including the first K-Pop idol and a popular Single’s Inferno contestant.

However, despite the high viewership, many felt disappointed in the show’s second season for several reasons.

Many felt that while the sets were more impressive, the challenges fell short in diversity and didn’t allow other types of athleticism outside of pure strength to shine.

The challenges favoring pure strength also disappointed some, leaving many women and lower-weight class men at a disadvantage. Some reflected on the need for the show’s formatting to change to avoid potentially becoming too repetitive.

The show’s final episodes also fell short for many as the winner, Amotti, lost challenges and was only saved by luck.  The ending was also more rushed than some felt was necessary.

The show’s success, despite these shortcomings, may result in another season, and hopefully, some of these concerns will be addressed.
