T.I. Targets Today’s Trap Rappers in Fresh Stand-Up Act

The iconic rapper, now dabbling in stand-up comedy, made an appearance on the revamped comedy series, where he offered a humorous take on the current landscape of trap music.

Reflecting on the evolution of trap music, T.I. quipped, “You listen to the first generation of trap music, folks like myself, Jeezy, Yo Gotti—we were spitting about things we’d already done, dodged, and moved past. You feel me? But this new wave of trap? They’re rapping about stuff they plan to do tomorrow, you catch my drift?”

His comedic routine echoed sentiments he’s previously expressed about the state of modern hip-hop.

During an interview with Shaquille O’Neal on his Big podcast, T.I. said “This generation reminds me of every other generation. You got some people who are exceptionally dope, and some people who are just alright. You know what I mean? But it’s a lot more of it to choose from now.

“I feel that, actually, what they’ve done with music is equivalent to if they were to open up the doors of the arena and say, ‘Anybody think you can play basketball? Come on out the stands out here to the floor. Here you go, a jersey, man. Get in the game.’”
