Some netizens were obsessed with the video, sharing how much they loved the concept. Yet, when the video was posted, one tweet gained attention after it seemingly criticized the set that the girls were dancing in front of. In particular, fans believed that the concept and vibes of the song, along with the details in the set, could be deemed as appropriating black culture.

why does hybe keep doing this with the sets.. pic.twitter.com/NNtyo6QYpz

they said you literally cannot stop us from appropriating

Yet, others found nothing wrong with the music video, believing that people just wanted to create trouble and hate for the members.

maybe i’m just not getting it but there’s nothing actually wrong with the video the song already has black elements and the mv fits with the song although some parts are random in terms of filming. this is not appropriation imo and everyone is confused so your point was not made https://t.co/u687TSSOUQ

Fans also had concerns about Eunchae‘s styling. When the song was first debuted for fans on the showcase, netizens had concerns that the choreography was too mature for a minor.

In the video for “Smart,” netizens raised concerns as the young idol was seen doing the same controversial choreography but in a school uniform that was altered to make it more suited to a K-Pop music video.

Many fans thought that the issues with the styling and linking it to the movements were more obvious, hitting back at those who saw no issue with it, especially comparing it to her members who are older.

the way everyone just likes to forget that eunchae is 17 just because they like the song… https://t.co/R6cy2ZQyNr

now im not one to jump on the “eunchae’s dancing is blah blah blah” but. i do think it’s weird to put her in a school uniform in this kind of setting. like it’s weird. https://t.co/2qno9Agk84

While some netizens have refuted the criticisms of the song as just following a “hate train” for the group, many fans just wanted LE SSERAFIM and HYBE to be aware of their concerns when it comes to released music and videos.
